Ronin- The Japanese word meaning "Masterless Samurai".

I've always viewed the freelance artist or in my particular case the Storyboard Artist as a modern day Ronin. The Ronin were masterless Samurai in Feudal Japan that had in one way or another lost their master. Ronin often became nomadic swords-for-hire.  They were very skilled swordsmen, and had to be quick on the draw.

We storyboard guys (and gals) live in a similar manner, usually moving from one project to the next. To be on one job such as a TV show for several years is a blessing for sure. Just as Ronin were skilled warriors, we storyboard artists have to be good at what we do and quick on the draw. Live by the pencil, die by the pencil! (Or stylus!)

If you need a masterless warrior to bring that professional look to your live-action or animated series, film or commercial; please drop me a line. Have pencil, will travel!
